The emergence of the documents, named Inflation Reduction and Price Stability (Fiscal Policy Measure etc) Order 2024 and Accelerated Stabilisation and Advancement Plan (ASAP), followed a meeting between the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, and President Tinubu at the State House in Abuja. While the former aims to curb inflation and stabilize prices, the latter intends to expedite economic recovery and provide relief to Nigerians.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, clarified that both documents are unofficial and subject to high-level government scrutiny.
The statement emphasized the iterative nature of policymaking, indicating that documents undergo multiple revisions and discussions before attaining finality. Onanuga urged the public and media to refrain from further discussion on these documents, as they await official approval from the government.
Furthermore, the statement urged caution in speculating on government policies, particularly regarding customs tariffs and fuel subsidies.
