Teenager Hangs Self To Death Over Torture In kaduna

A 13-year-old boy, Wisdom Hashimu, has tragically ended his life in the Ungwan Maigero Community in the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The incident occurred on Thursday, June 7, allegedly following the torment inflicted on the deceased by a soldier and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force in the vicinity.

Wisdom, who took his life in the family’s compound on Lafiya Sarki Street, was falsely accused of stealing N10,000 from a neighbor on June 1.

Reportedly, the 16-year-old neighbor, known as Hope, summoned her boyfriend, Segun Samson, a serving soldier at Bodi Camp in Port-Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State, during which the money went missing, leading Hope to involve her boyfriend, who then subjected Wisdom and his brother to the Civilian JTF office.

Despite Wisdom undergoing his Junior Secondary School examination, he allegedly faced severe beatings from a soldier and members of the civilian JTF.

Wisdom’s father, Mr. Saul, disclosed, “Instead of reporting to the police, the soldier took Wisdom and Hope’s brother, both accused of theft, to the civilian JTF office, where Wisdom was brutally beaten until he became incapacitated. He returned home after receiving medical attention.” Tragedy struck when Wisdom’s lifeless body was discovered hanging behind their compound on Thursday.

The grieving father expressed outrage, stating, “The Civilian JTF exceeded their authority by torturing Wisdom."

He further added, “To my dismay, the Civilian JTF only subjected Wisdom to severe beatings, leaving him in a coma, while Hope’s younger brother was spared and returned home unharmed."

Following interrogation, Hope’s younger brother confessed to the theft, with N9,000 found in his possession, having spent N1,000 already.

Consequently, the family demands justice for the torture that allegedly led to their son's suicide.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mansir Hassan, assured, “An investigation has commenced. The Commissioner of Police has directed the Department of Criminal Investigation to fully handle the case, and whoever is implicated will face justice."
